About Our Church

In 1839, First Christian Church of Monmouth was established. In March of 2004, the First Christian Church built a new building where they have been since.

Rev. Jim Epperson has been the Pastor at the First Christian Church for the past 17 years, Nathan Cooper has been the Youth Pastor for 71/2 years. Other staff at the church include Pam Epperson, Worship Coordinator; Shelly Smith, Office/Bookkeeper; Judy Willer, Office Coordinator; Debbie Bennett will be joining the staff in October as the new Children's Director, and we are currently looking for an Associate Pastor for Discipleship and small groups.

The church office is open Monday thru Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm. Sunday worship times include Traditional Services at 7:45am and 8:30am; Contemporary Service at 10:45am; Junior Worship for Kindergarten thru 6th Grade, and Wee Worship for young children at 10:45am; and Sunday School classes for all ages at 9:45am.

The church also offers a number of programs and classes. These include small group studies to meet the needs of all ages, Divorce Care, Women's Ministry with studies and activities that meet the needs of women, Men's Fellowship, Sports Ministry that includes Co-ed softball and volleyball, and Wednesday evening PEAK of the WEEK meal that begins at 5:45pm and includes a study for the whole family at 6:15pm. We also have a Junior High and High School program on Sunday evenings from 6:00pm - 8:00pm. This program is open to all area youth for study, activities, summer trips and mission trips. We have a Junior High prayer time and breakfast on Thursday mornings at the church at 7:45am, and High School prayer time at the school library Wednesday mornings at 7:45am. Children's programs resume in October when the new director arrives, and programs will be announced.

First Christian Church offers Reachouts to area nursing homes, Hi rises, and assisted living facilities. Mission groups support numerous missions as well as trips made by their own parishioners. The newest mission is the Raph House in Cambodia where ten members of the church will be going in January.

The staff and members of the church pride themselves in their youth programs for all ages, and their small group studies for everyone. The church startes that they are not the only Christians, but they are Christians only, trying to restore the New Testament church by their love for God, Love for Others, and Love for Service.

The church is located at 514 North Sunnylane in Monmouth. We can be contacted at 309-734-9419 or emailing 1stchristianchurch@frontiernet.net.
